The Presidency, on Friday, dismissed as unfounded and unfortunate reports that President Muhammadu Buhari donated $500m to Hillary Clinton’s Presidential campaign in the just concluded United States’ election.
A US group known as the American Black Group for Democracy, last week, had accused Buhari of donating $500m to Clinton’s campaign organisation.
The group had circulated a video online to give flesh and credibility to the allegation.
Many local and international media outfits had also fed on the false news and yielded their platforms to vend same.
But denying the allegation on Friday, Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu, who took to his twitter handle @GarShehu, maintained that the President does not have such “amount to throw around.”
Shehu wrote: “Nigeria doesn’t have this kind of money to throw around.”
“What is the craziest accusation made against President Buhari?
“That he donated $500m to Hillary’s campaign and that Donald Trump is angry. This has gone viral. Sadly, Nigerians are believing it!
“President Buhari’s Nigeria doesn’t have this kind of money to throw around. Even if the money is there, this President is the least likely person to give it as donation, and for what?”
