An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti State on Wednesday sent a 28-year old man, Niyi Oluyole, to prison for alleged burglary and stealing.
Police prosecutor Oriyomi Akinwale said the accused and others at large committed the offence on December 13, 2016 at Zone 7, Olorunsogo, Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the accused and others at large did break into the house of Mr. Michael Olutoye.
Oriyomi said the accused committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Vol. 1 Laws of Ekiti State 2012.
The prosecutor alleged that the accused and others at large stole N148,000, one Dell laptop screen valued at N300,000, one Sony digital camera valued at N568,000, belonging to Mr. Olutoye Michael, adding that they also stole N38,000 belonging to Mr. Uweh Anayo.
He said he committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Vol.1 Laws of Ekiti State 2012.
The prosecutor applied for an adjournment to enable him duplicate the case file and send to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
The plea was not taken, as his counsel, Mr. Gbenga Oladimeji, applied for his bail, promising the court that he would not jump bail, but the bail was not granted.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Taiwo Ajibade, said the court lacked jurisdiction on the trial and remanded the accused in prison custody, pending the outcome from legal advice.
She adjourned the case till August 29 for hearing.
