Court jails musician for stealing phone

Symbol-of-justice (1) (1)A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in the FCT on Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old musician, Isaac Wilson, to one month imprisonment for stealing phone worth N115, 000.

Wilson of Durumi 11 by Dunamis Church, Abuja, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of theft.

The Area Court judge, Abubakar Sadiq, however gave the convict an option of N5,000 fine and warned him to desist from crime.

The First Information Report (FIR) stated that Azubuike Josephine of Rock of Ages Mall Jabi, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station.

Prosecuting counsel Dalhatu Zannah said that sometime in 2015 the convict entered the complainant’s supermarket under the pretext of making photocopies only to steal S5 Galaxy phone valued at N115, 000.

Zannah said the CCTV camera captured the convict and on August 23, he came back to the same supermarket with the intention to commit the same criminal act and he was apprehended.

The prosecutor said that the convicts admitted committing the offence during police investigation and interrogation.

Zannah said the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.

The trial judge consequently convicted the accused and sentenced him to a month jail term with an option of N5,000 fine.
