The police on Friday gave a graphic detail before a Lagos Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Surulere of how a 40-year-old man, Friday James, lured a 12-year old girl (names withheld) into his room before defiling her to satisfy his ‘satanic’ urge.
The police prosecutor, Anthonia Osanyade, told the court that the accused committed the offence at Sari-Iganmu, Lagos, at about 6.00pm, on August 20.
Osayande had narrated to the court that the hapless girl told the police that the 40-year old James had actually sent his victim on an errand to get satchet water popularly called ‘pure water’ for him.
“As soon as the girl came back from the errand, James asked her to enter the room to deliver the pure water but that the girl was reluctant.
“James therefore opened his door room pretending as if he wanted to collect from the girl the pure water. But like a well-rehearsed game, James instead of going for the pure water, went for the hands of the girl, gripped her, carried her into his room and shut her mouth with an already prepared towel to enable him perform his operation seamlessly.
“He forcefully had sex with the girl and was later arrested after the bubble burst,” adding that the accused person had confessed to the crime.
He said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
But when the charge of defilement was read out to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and his lawyer asked for his bail.
In a short ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Ipaye Nwachukwu, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused while the other must be a civil servant not below GL-14.
She ordered that the accused must not be allowed to breathe his air of freedom until he has satisfied fully the bail conditions.
The case was adjourned till September 9 for mention.
