Kogi Politics: Dino Melaye in trouble, loses legal bid to stop his recall from senate

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday gave the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the green-light to proceed with the recall process of Senator Dino Melaye from the National Assembly.

That was after the trial judge, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court threw out Melaye’s suit that sought to stop his recall by INEC.

Justice Dimgba dismissed the suit on the grounds that it lacked merit, adding that it was hasty and premature since Melaye failed to exhaust all internal mechanism provided by the 1999 constitution before rushing to court.

The judge however ordered INEC to forward a copy of the said petition it received from Melaye’s constituency, signatories, including the full list of the petitioners to the senator.

This, according to Dimgba, is to address issues relating to fair hearing cited by the plaintiff.

It would be recalled that INEC had begun the recall process following a petition received from the people of Kogi West Federal Constituency, whom Melaye represents at the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
