Paris Club Refunds: 36 govs meet, gang up against EFCC over probe of purported diversion of funds

The governors of the 36 states of the federation on Thursday met at the Presidential Villa in Abuja over the on-going probe of an allegation that some of them diverted the refund made to their states from the excess charges of Paris Club.

The governors who spoke on the issue on Thursday said they were ready to take on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the matter as soon as the agency’s report is ready.

After a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja late Thursday night under the aegis of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), the governors said they would await the report of EFCC investigation.

It would be recalled that there were reports that some states allegedly diverted the refunds made to them from the Paris Club debt deductions.

Some states were said to have used fictitious consultants to divert some of the money from the Paris Club which had attracted the attention of the EFCC.
