A Delta State Magistrate Court has sentenced a 65-year-old man, Mr. Brakeme John to a seven year jail term for raping a seven-year-old girl in Effurun.
The trial court sentenced him to the jail term after convicting him of the crime.
John was arraigned before the magistrate court in Udu, Udu local government area of Delta State on Thursday.
He did not deny the allegation as he pleaded guilty to the crime.
He had asked the court for clemency or in the alternative leniency, saying he was pushed by alcohol and devil.
The magistrate took note of his allocutus before slamming him with seven years jail term.
After John had pleaded guilty to the charge, the prosecutor had reviewed the facts of the case against the applicable laws.
The prosecutor, Mr. Sunday Akemu had told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 8th, 2014 at Omokosi chive in Effurun.
He said the convict, who was under the influence of alcohol, held the young girl and dragged her into an uncompleted building and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
He added that the minor’s cry for help attracted residents who later rescued her after John had forcefully had sex with her.
According to him, the act contravened section 218 and 222 of the criminal code.
The Magistrate, Mr. Moses Akpona, in her ruling found John guilty of a three count charge of having unlawful carnal knowledge, assault and battery before sentencing him.
