Tagbo: Davido hires SAN, cautions police, media

Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido has hired a member of the inner bar, Norrison Quakers (SAN) to handle his defence regarding his alleged involvement in the death of his close pal, Tagbo Umeike.

He is not only insisting that he knew nothing about Tagbo’s death and that the media were misrepresenting issues but that the police were being economical with the truth when they claimed he lied to them on what he knew about Tagbo’s death.

The police had on Wednesday said Tagbo died from suffocation and that Davido lied during questioning. The singer subsequently took to his Instagram page to react to the development, saying, “soon a statement and footage will be released.”

He wrote: “Lies everywhere due to respect for Tagbo and his family, I haven’t spoken about this issue since.“God bless you guys!!! everyone be safe. My heart is pure and the world knows, please God keep my heart the same. Please don’t give me a change of heart. Lord, I shall remain a giving being.”

In a statement issued by his lawyer, Quakers (SAN), Davido said he was never arrested by the police, rather he made himself available for questioning.

Our client maintains that he has not in any way lied about what he knows about the unfortunate incident, neither has his statement to the police been incoherent as unfortunately being presented in the media,” the statement read.

Davido also released CCTV footage from the Shisha lounge where he saw the deceased last before the tragic incident happened.

Meanwhile, the family of Tagbo Ifeatuchukwu Umeike has also appealed to the public to allow police conclude its investigation into the death of their son, adding that though they are unable to disclose any further information, the truth will come out soon.

In a statement signed by Mrs. Equi Araka on behalf of the family, they also urged the media, especially blogs covering the story to refrain from peddling hearsay and fabrications but rather stick to the facts as the family grieve their loss.

“We received the shocking news of the passing of our brother on October 3, 2017 around 8:55p.m. several hours after his demise. Since his passing, there have been several stories making the rounds regarding Tagbo’s personality and the circumstances concerning his death.

“For the records, Tagbo looked out for everyone and had a big heart; he was a friend to all and loved by many.

“Evidence received so far suggests that there is more to his death and we as a family will ensure that the truth regarding the circumstances of his passing will be brought to light.

“We thank the Lagos State police command led by Acting Commissioner of Police, Imohini Edgal, for their professionalism in carrying out their investigation.”
