President Bola Tinubu says he will welcome the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, into the All Progressives Congress (APC) whenever he [Wike] chooses to join officially.
Tinubu said this during the inauguration of the Arterial Road N16 and other infrastructure in the Katampe area of Abuja on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
The president commended Wike, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and his team for their commitment to transformative infrastructure development, describing the minister as a “team builder and a team player.”
He said: “Nyesom Wike is not a member of my party (APC), not yet.
“But the day he changes his mind and registers with the progressives, we will welcome him. Because we will enjoy him singing ‘as e dey pain dem, e dey sweet us’.”
Tinubu’s remarks drew laughter from the audience, including Wike.
Speaking, the minister said the Tinubu administration’s impactful projects and reforms have rendered opposition’s efforts ineffective ahead of the 2027 general election.
He noted that the impressive pace of development under Tinubu’s leadership had disoriented critics and opposition groups, who, he claimed, had formed a coalition to challenge the president’s potential re-election bid.
Wike said: “I thought there would be a coalition, but when people see new projects being unveiled daily, that idea collapses.
“It has failed because the good work is too obvious to ignore.”
