Director-General of Nigerian Law School, Prof. Olanrewaju Onadeko (SAN) on Thursday told the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) that some lawyers were caught writing examination for students in the school.
Onadeko, made the disclosure in Port-Harcourt while presenting his report to the 56th Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
The report got the filled hall divided with some following Onadeko’s report while others were discussing the issue with colleagues.
Other agencies and departments of government under the Ministry of Justice including the Nigeria Law Reform Commission and Institute of Advanced Legal Studies also presented their reports to the bar for adoption and comments.
Onadeko, though did not disclose the number of affected lawyers, he however hinted that the matter had been reported to the NBA disciplinary committee
He pleaded with the association to take serious action against such lawyers to save legal education in the country.
Lagos lawyer, Mr Rotimi Jacob, SAN, stood up during the review of the report to also plead with the NBA to address the issue raised by the director-general of the Law School.
He said those found guilty should be disciplined after due process had been followed to determine their cases.
Jacob said the issue was serious because of its implications on the future of legal education in the country.
The outgoing President of NBA, Mr Augustine Alegeh, said the association had not received report of such incident in the past two years.
He, however, said that the NBA had a committee to handle the matter on receipt of the report.
