Military recovers over N765m from oil thieves, kills 197 terrorists in 7 days

The Military High Command on Thursday said it has recovered a total of 728,360 litres of stolen crude oil and 143,450 litres of illegally refined AGO and other related products, valued at N765,654,100.00 from oil thieves in the past seven days.

The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja where he highlighted its latest feats in the war against crude oil theft across the nation’s oil-producing regions.

According to him, the troops also recovered 1,100 litres of DPK and 18,750 litres of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) while destroying 29 dugout pits, 22 boats and 26 storage tanks in the Niger Delta region.

The Armed Forces, he further stated also recovered 180 assorted weapons and 5,123 assorted ammunition within the period under review.

The military gave a breakdown of the recovered weapon to include: two PKT guns, one fabricated Arty gun, one G3 rifle, 73 AK47 rifles, 17 locally fabricated guns, 21 Dane guns, 2 pump action guns, 2 revolver rifles and one short dane gun.

Others include three double barrel guns, three single-barrel guns, one pistol, four locally fabricated pistols, five fabricated beretta pistols and one Beretta pistol.

The remaining include one magnum pump action gun, one Exp 64 semi-auto rifle, 10 hand grenades, 3 60mm mortar bombs, bandoliers, 10 fabricated Arty bombs, 21 mobile phones and the sum of N1,236,200.00 as well as CFA 608,000.00 only amongst other items.
