Presidency mocks Peter Obi, asks him to lead hunger protest

The presidency, on Monday, challenged the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi to lead the planned nationwide protest against hardship and hunger instead of acting like a coward.

Bayo Onanuga who stated the position of the presidency on X handle, said Peter Obi should take a more active role in the planned protest.

Onanuga is the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy.

His position was a reaction to  Peter Obi’s endorsement of the planned nationwide protest.

Obi had, in his endorsement in Umuahia, in an interview with journalists after meeting with Governor Alex Otti, said that the protest was as a result of widespread hunger and hopelessness among the youth.

Onanuga, who wrote on his verified X handle, urged Peter Obi to stop remaining behind the scenes and come out to openly lead the protest like some leaders that included President Tinubu and former President Buhari did.

The presidential aide noted that true leadership involved being at the forefront and helping to manage any potential excesses during the protest.

Onanuga wrote: “Now that Peter Obi has come out to endorse the planned protest by his supporters, he should do what President Tinubu and former President Buhari did in the past, by coming out openly to lead the protesters.

“That is what leadership is about. Not playing the master puppeteer behind the scene. He should be in the forefront of the protest and help in curbing their possible excesses.”
