The Presidency on Tuesday said there is no iota of truth in the information making the rounds that President Bola Tinubu has directed the Central Bank Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, to resign.

There has been widespread information that Tinubu had issued the directive following the poor state of the Nigerian economy, particularly, the free fall of the Naira despite promises that there would be improvement.

In reaction to the alleged directive to Cardoso to resign, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, said there was no truth in the information.

“It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign,” Onanuga wrote on his X handle.

President Tinubu’s appointment of Cardoso as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, was announced on September 15, 2023.

The appointment was later confirmed by the Senate.

Cardoso, who replaced Godwin Emefiele, is a banker, chartered stockbroker and public policy expert.

He had worked in the public, private and development sectors.

He had served as the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Lagos State.
