Contractors warn against plot to sack NDDC’s MD

The Contractors Association and the Indigenous Contractors Association of Niger Delta have warned against plans to remove the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Samuel Ugbuku.

They said taking such decision would have negative consequences for the Niger Delta region.

Specifically, the contractors argued that ousting the NDDC chief before the expiration of his four-year tenure has the potential for destabilization of the region.

In a statement, the President of the Contractors Association of the NDDC, Comrade Sylvester Tonye, advised that stakeholders and politicians should prioritize the interests of the Niger Delta people over selfish agenda.

Tonye released the statement on a day the Indigenous Contractors Association-led by Honorable Appoloss Christopher Godbless also passed a vote of confidence in Ugbuku’s leadership, urging support for the completion of his four-year tenure.

They said notwithstanding the purported failure by the International Oil Companies operating in the Niger Delta region to remit their three percent contribution, the NDDC under the leadership of Ugbuku had done well.

It would be recalled that both associations had in July this year threatened to take legal action against the International Oil Companies operating in the Niger Delta region for allegedly refusing to remit their three percent contributions to the NDDC.

They had said that the act had remained so for over five years thereby slowing down the implementation of projects for the good of the Niger Delta people.

The President of the Contractors Association Sylvester Tonye, in a statement issued in Abuja then, had asked Tinubu to prevail on the IOCs to fulfil their responsibilities to the commission.
