The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the removal of the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Dr. Bernard Odoh.
The government also dissolved the university’s Governing Council.
The decision followed allegations from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that the Governing Council failed to follow due process in Odoh’s appointment.
The union demanded the dissolution of the Council, citing illegalities in the selection process.
According to the Ministry’s statement, the Chairman of the Governing Council appointed a Vice-Chancellor who did not meet the minimum eligibility criteria, leading to unrest and tension within the university community.
The Federal Ministry of Education emphasized the need to address the governance issues urgently to prevent further instability at the institution.
