Wike, Fubara meet over 2027 political realignment in Rivers

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Sunday held a closed-door meeting with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other political stakeholders over possible realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting took place at Fubara’s private residence in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Wike, accompanied by key members of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State, arrived at the governor’s residence at about 4:30 p.m.

Although an official communiqué on the outcome of the meeting had yet to be released as of the time of reporting, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the FCT minister on Public Communications and Social Media, said the discussions focused on strategic political alignments ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to Olayinka, the meeting signalled a possible realignment among political actors towards supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and other candidates under the Rainbow Coalition in 2027.

He said the engagement came amid shifting political interests in Rivers State, where both Wike and Fubara wield considerable political influence.

Olayinka added that Sunday’s meeting followed a similar engagement held on October 7, describing the consultations as part of sustained efforts to build consensus among key political players in the state.

“The meeting is an offshoot of Wike’s recent public declaration of support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“It is a layer of national significance to the state-level consultations,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Wike, who was appointed by Tinubu to coordinate the president’s re-election campaign in Rivers State and the FCT, has begun consultations with political stakeholders to mobilise support for the president ahead of the 2027 general elections.
