Tinubu replaces service chiefs, appoints new military heads

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved major changes in the leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture.

Under the new appointments, General Olufemi Oluyede becomes the Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.

Also appointed are Major-General W. Shaibu as the Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as the Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as the Chief of Naval Staff.

The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, will retain his position.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “dedicated service and patriotic leadership.”

He urged the newly appointed military leaders to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, vigilance, and unity in the discharge of their duties.

All appointments, according to the statement, take immediate effect.
