The self-styled Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, has disclosed that those he borrowed money from to secure the appointment have reported him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Adeyemi made the revelation on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.
He also said his absence from the public was not an attempt to evade law enforcement agencies but was due to concerns over his safety.
“I’m ready to show my face,” he said.
“I’m not hiding.
“I’m only fearing for my life because I have it on good authority that my life is in danger.
“There have been several attempts on my life.”
Adeyemi also maintained his allegation that he paid money to the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, through a proxy to secure his appointment as Director-General of the council.
Responding to a question on how he raised the ₦400 million he claimed was paid for the appointment, Adeyemi said he borrowed the money.
“I borrowed the money (₦400 million) for this appointment,” he said.
“In fact, those that I borrowed from have reported me to the EFEFCC
Bar & Bench Watch reports that the controversy surrounding the PFIPC escalated after Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi publicly alleged that he paid ₦400 million through a proxy to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, to secure his appointment as Director-General of the council.
Gbajabiamila had since denied the allegation, describing it as false and defamatory.
Similarly, the Presidency had distanced itself from the PFIPC, stating that the body was neither created nor recognised by the Federal Government and that Adeyemi had no official appointment as Director-General.
The Presidency also directed security and anti-corruption agencies to investigate the claims and prosecute anyone found culpable.
The matter has since attracted the attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), while Adeyemi has continued to insist that his allegations are true and has repeatedly called for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the controversy.
