Media Trust Group, publishers of Daily Trust newspapers, will on Thursday, October 22, launch a converged digital newsroom designed to integrate its editorial operations and enhance news production and distribution across its platforms.
The initiative will bring together the editorial operations of Daily Trust, Trust TV, Trust Radio, Aminiya, Digital Trust and other platforms in a unified newsroom to promote collaboration, optimise resources and deliver timely, relevant and engaging content to audiences across multiple channels.
The technology-driven newsroom will deploy digital tools, including artificial intelligence (AI), to support editorial workflows, content production, news distribution and audience analysis.
However, the Group said the adoption of AI would complement rather than replace journalists’ responsibilities, with editorial judgement, verification and accountability remaining firmly in human hands.
Speaking ahead of the launch, the Group Chief Executive Officer, Ahmed I. Shekarau, described the initiative as a strategic move towards building a more integrated, responsive and sustainable media organisation.
He said the convergence would strengthen the Group’s capacity to understand audience preferences, deliver credible journalism and make its content more accessible across different platforms.
“The future of the media lies in our ability to understand and serve our audiences better,” Shekarau said.
He added that the investment would position the Group to harness technological innovations, deepen audience relationships and create greater value for its commercial partners.
Similarly, the Group Editorial Director and Editor-in-Chief, Ibrahim Shehu Adamu, said the initiative would strengthen collaboration among journalists and editors while improving the delivery of stories across print, broadcast and digital platforms.
According to him, the changing ways in which audiences consume news make it imperative for media organisations to adopt more integrated approaches to news production and distribution.
He said the converged newsroom would improve editorial coordination and enable the Group to deliver more engaging and comprehensive news experiences to its diverse audiences.
Adamu added that AI-powered tools would help streamline newsroom processes, improve operational efficiency and enable journalists to respond more quickly to developing events.
He, however, stressed that the Group’s commitment to accuracy, editorial independence and public-interest journalism would remain unchanged.
For readers, viewers and listeners, the initiative is expected to promote coordinated news coverage, richer multimedia storytelling and easier access to reports, analysis, interviews, videos and audio content across the Group’s platforms.
It is also expected to strengthen the organisation’s ability to respond to audience interests and feedback, particularly as more Nigerians consume news through mobile devices and digital channels.
On the commercial front, the integration is expected to create opportunities for coordinated advertising campaigns across newspapers, television, radio and digital platforms.
By combining the reach of its various brands with improved insights into audience behaviour, the Group aims to offer advertisers more effective brand storytelling, wider audience engagement and better campaign measurement.
The initiative forms part of Media Trust Group’s broader strategy to build a digitally driven, audience-focused and commercially sustainable media organisation amid rapid technological changes and evolving demands within the media industry.
