A woman, Walimot, has approached a Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking the dissolution of her marriage to Hameed over alleged financial misconduct, domestic violence and threats to her life.
Walimot, who described herself as the defendant’s third wife, told the court that she had endured persistent disagreements and maltreatment since their marriage in June 2024.
According to her, Hameed initially treated her affectionately but later became more interested in her money and properties than their marital relationship.
She alleged that the problems began a few months after she moved into their matrimonial home, when her husband allegedly demanded that she transfer ownership of her properties to him.
The plaintiff said she rejected the demand because the properties, which she acquired before and after their marriage, were registered in her name.
She claimed that her refusal triggered frequent quarrels and physical assaults over minor disagreements.
Walimot further alleged that her husband secretly transferred money from her bank account into his own while she slept, deleting transaction alerts from her phone to conceal the transactions.
She told the court that Hameed became threatening after she confronted him over the alleged transfers and challenged his conduct.
The plaintiff also accused her husband of repeatedly expressing displeasure over her close relationship with her father, despite her explanations about their family bond.
She said she eventually reported the matter to the police and left their matrimonial home because she feared for her safety.
Walimot told the court that although she had initially believed the marriage would bring her happiness, her experience had been different.
She disclosed that the couple married in June 2024 and that Hameed paid her bride price, which was subsequently returned to him.
Insisting that she no longer wished to remain in the marriage, she urged the court to dissolve the union.
She also sought custody of their only child and asked the court to direct Hameed to contribute to the child’s upkeep.
Additionally, Walimot requested an order restraining her husband from threatening her or violating her privacy.
Husband Fails to Appear
The defendant reportedly failed to appear in court despite being served with summonses.
The court president, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, subsequently adjourned the case.
