Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 after battling cancer.
The actor’s death was announced on Sunday by one of his daughters in a post shared on Instagram.
The development comes days after his daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, made emotional appeals for urgent medical assistance for their father, who they disclosed was battling stage-four cancer.
Kira had earlier said doctors had informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of the advanced stage of the disease.
The family subsequently appealed to cancer specialists, hospitals and other medical professionals capable of providing further treatment for the veteran actor.
Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language Nollywood, with a career spanning more than four decades. He was widely recognised for his memorable performances and contributions to the development of the Nigerian film industry.
His death has triggered an outpouring of grief among colleagues, fans and other stakeholders in the entertainment industry.
