Nigerian comedian and actor, Julius Agwu, has revealed that he developed sexual dysfunction following a brain surgery he underwent in the United States in 2015.
Agwu made the disclosure while appearing on the Beer Parlour Talk Show, where he opened up about the health crisis that nearly derailed his career and the lasting physical and emotional effects of the ordeal.
The comedian said doctors discovered three tumours in his brain, including one he described as being about the size of a golf ball, leading to the surgery.
According to him, the health challenge and subsequent operation affected his sexual function, with the problem becoming apparent after the surgery.
Agwu was responding to a question on whether the illness and treatment had affected other parts of his body when he disclosed the sexual complications he experienced following the operation.
During the programme, other participants also discussed the possible connection between the brain, nerves and bodily functions as the comedian recounted some of the physical changes he experienced after the surgery.
Beyond his health struggles, Agwu reflected on his contribution to the Nigerian entertainment industry, particularly his role in popularising music comedy.
The comedian, who has successfully combined music, comedy and acting throughout his career, said his ability to fuse music with humour helped distinguish his performances and establish his identity in the Nigerian entertainment scene.
Agwu also became emotional while recounting the difficult period, particularly the reaction of some people he considered friends.
He said some of his associates abandoned him while he was battling the health crisis, expressing disappointment over the manner in which they distanced themselves from him at a time he needed support.
Despite the experience, the comedian said he had chosen to leave the matter in God’s hands.
Agwu remains one of Nigeria’s recognised entertainment personalities, having built a career spanning comedy, music and acting before his health challenges forced him to scale back his activities.
