Police arrest ex-Imo Governor Rochas Okorocha in Abuja over alleged forgery

Former Imo State Governor and ex-Senator Rochas Anayo Okorocha has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.

According to Daily Sun, Okorocha was arrested on Monday night, October 12, 2026, at REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja.

The arrest reportedly followed his failure to honour police invitations in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation, leading to a bench warrant being issued against him.

The newspaper reported that Okorocha was initially invited to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on September 2, 2026. However, the appointment was rescheduled to September 8 at the request of his lawyers, but he allegedly failed to honour the rescheduled invitation.

The precise details of the allegations against the former governor were not fully available as of the time of filing this report.

Okorocha, 64, governed Imo State from May 2011 to May 2019, serving two terms.

He was initially elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) before defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013.

Following his tenure as governor, he represented Imo West Senatorial District in the Ninth Senate from 2019 to 2023.

He is also the founder of the Rochas Foundation, known for its educational programmes for underprivileged children.

The latest development comes amid a court-ordered arrest warrant reported on October 9, 2026, involving Okorocha and other individuals over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and the tendering of false documents relating to purported APC primary election results.

According to Channels Television, the warrant was issued by a Senior Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja.

The report also said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had requested police and Department of State Services (DSS) investigations into allegations that Okorocha presented forged APC primary results.

However, the allegations remain allegations, and any determination of criminal liability rests with the appropriate court.
