A Kano Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a 25-year-old woman, Maimuna Idris, over the alleged severing of her boyfriend’s genitals following a dispute reportedly arising from his intention to marry another woman.
Idris, who resides in Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, is facing a two-count charge of attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt.
Prosecuting counsel, H.A. Sani-Buhari, told the court that the incident occurred on July 27, 2026, at Badawa Quarters in Kano.
According to the prosecution, the Badawa Police Division received a report from the management of Durbar Hotel at about 12:50 p.m. that the defendant had allegedly attacked her boyfriend, identified as Ashiru Sani, with a sharp knife.
Sani-Buhari further alleged that earlier, at about 11 a.m., the defendant had severed the victim’s genitals after allegedly discovering that he intended to marry another woman.
The prosecution told the court that the injured man was subsequently rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, Kano, for medical treatment.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges.
The prosecution said the alleged offences contravened Sections 229 and 248 of the Penal Code.
Following the proceedings, Magistrate Sadiya Usman ordered that Idris be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the matter for further proceedings.
The case remains before the court, and the allegations against the defendant are yet to be determined by a court of competent jurisdiction.
The case arose from an alleged violent incident at Badawa Quarters in Kano on July 27, 2026.
