A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has barred the Speaker, Martin Chile Amaewhule, and 24 other lawmakers from parading themselves as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
It would be recalled that Amaewhule and 24 of his colleagues had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on whose platform they were elected, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Justice Charles N. Wali gave the order in a suit with registration number: PHC/1512/CS/2024, filed by the factional Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Victor Oko Jumbo and two other lawmakers.
The two others are Sokari Goodboy and Orubienimigha Timothy.
Named as defendants in the suit are Amaewhule and 24 others, the Governor of Rivers State, the Attorney General of the state and the state Chief Judge of the state.
