The Chief of Staff to the President, Chief Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday honoured an invitation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in connection with its ongoing investigation into the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Gbajabiamila’s lawyer, Mr. Jiti Ogunye, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday.
According to Ogunye, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives reported to the ICPC headquarters in Abuja at about 3:00 p.m. in compliance with the invitation.
He said his client fully cooperated with investigators, gave his statement, responded to questions and thereafter returned to his official duties.
Ogunye stated that Gbajabiamila’s appearance before the anti-corruption agency was in connection with the commission’s investigation into the activities of the PFIPC, which he described as a “fake agency.”
Bar & Bench Watch recalls that the self-styled Director-General of the PFIPC, Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, had alleged that Gbajabiamila received ₦400 million from him for the documentation of the controversial agency.
Adeyemi, however, maintained that he did not personally meet the Chief of Staff during the transaction.
The self-styled PFIPC Director-General has since been arrested by the police, arraigned before a court and remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
