MAPOLY expels 365 students over fake academic credentials

The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State, has expelled 365 students for securing admission into the institution with falsified academic documents.

The affected students, who were enrolled in various Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes, were found to have submitted fake National Diploma (ND) results and forged academic transcripts from different institutions to gain admission into the polytechnic.

The expulsion was announced on Monday in a statement issued by the Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Mr. Yemi Ajibola.

Ajibola said the decision followed a comprehensive verification exercise carried out on credentials submitted by students during the admission and registration processes.

According to him, the action reflects the institution’s commitment to sanitizing the academic system and enforcing its zero-tolerance policy against fraudulent practices and other forms of academic misconduct.

He gave the breakdown of the expelled students as follows:
• School of Communication and Information Technology – 156
• School of Engineering – 36
• School of Business and Management Studies – 117
• School of Science and Technology – 54
• School of Environmental Studies – 2

Ajibola said the Rector, Dr. Koye Jolaoso, has warned prospective applicants and admission seekers against using fake academic credentials to gain admission into the institution.

The Rector said the decisive action demonstrates the polytechnic’s commitment to upholding academic integrity, promoting excellence, and repositioning the 47-year-old institution as a model of transparency, credibility and professionalism in tertiary education.
